Re: Any Tips?
Another tip is to always write when you're bored and have nothing else to do. It helps you get ideas.
Re: Any Tips?
Stop arguing! This is supposed to be a tip post! Man, do you guys fight all the time?
p.s. If you want a pic. on your signature, go to photobucket and join. Then, favor a pic. you like and save it to your account. Finally, use tabs to get here as well, then right-click on the pic. and do 'copy' and right-click on your signature's new place, pressing 'paste'

I wasn't aware that we were fighting about anything. I thought that we were just giving tips...
Re: Any Tips?
When you have an idea and you can't start writing a story on it right away, make a note about it and then go back to it.
Re: Any Tips?
This is how I always start to write...
When me and sweetkiss are together we brain storm ideas. I was the one that came up with Samantha Brown. Anyways it helps me a lot to talk out ideas with friends and get there opinions, like if it would make a good story or not!! I hope that helps somebody!!

Methuselah wrote:*sigh* Just focus more on the tip giving than fighting.
They weren't fighting...
ALWAYS use a litmus test on original characters.
That's my tip.

Re: Any Tips?
Ok if you are in a noisy enviorment and you want to write, either move somewhere quieter or just block out the noise.

Re: Any Tips?
What helps me is to write with music playing. Most people like the silence but it doesn't have to be blaring loud or anything. I find it easier to focus and I don't get bored as fast.
Re: Any Tips?
Keep old school essays and free writing tasks- You never know which concepts might come back to you.
Re: Any Tips?
Oh don't worry, from what I hear, 017350 and harrygz are always fighting. I am in Harry's class.
My tip: don't spend too long brainstorming ideas, just start writing. The storyline will come to you. My biggest problem in writing has always been the plot. I can create characters, I myself think I do a good job with the setting, but I can't ever think of a problem. (plot)
Just let the story play out as you write it.

Yeah, my suggestion would be to make it classical music.
Re: Any Tips?
I like classical music, (it's the only music I listen to) but I don't ever listen to it when writing. Usually I get very focused on what I'm doing and it doesn't matter whether the tv's blaring or someone just dropped a nuclear bomb.
Re: Any Tips?
Allways imagine you're writing down whatever is going on around you, as if you were the narrator in a book, or the narrator sat in your head talking to you. You might just come up with a funny formulation or something else that is useful, or incorporate a real event to a story you're writing.
Re: Any Tips?
Sometimes it helps to have a sheet of paper dedicated just to brainstorming where you can get all your characters in order, where you can write down questions that need to be answered in your book, and write down a short summary about what you want to happen in the book. I find this is really helpful even though my story often strays from my original ideas. It's mostly helpful to get you started, which can often be the hardest part.

Re: Any Tips?
Make sure your characters are solid and fluent.
Meaning: If they are made with a certain personality, keep that personality the same throughout the book, story, or whatever. Sure, sometimes they do different things in different situations, but their general personality needs to stay fluent throughout the story and not just change in the spur of a moment just to add excitement to the story. However, a character's personality can change over time, as peoples' personalities do. You just have to make it reasonable, realistic, and all that. All in all, though, fluent characters are excellent to have.

Adding on to Holleh's character tip:
Make a varity of characters. Round, flat, dynamic, whatever.

Re: Any Tips?
Oh, more about characters:
Make sure they feel real to you. If they don't feel real to you, then how are they going to feel real to everyone else?
