Lost in the Crowd
Uhm... just a little Iggy ficlet.
Concrit please!
_________
Lost in the Crowd
The voices around me blend together, their words slur and change.
They are moving, all of them. I cannot track them. They chatter so quickly that I cannot understand.
Bodies are pressed against me, they feel as solid as steel.
They aren't bodies, they're bars, hot under a light I cannot see.
Perfumes and sweat mingle. Or is that disinfectant? I smell body fluids mixed in, it crowds around me. And then the noise, it begins to sound organized. It speaks, cold and indifferent, about things that I cannot understand. It is still chatter, but it now has a purpose.
The words are scientific, and beyond my schooling.
Except for one sentence.
Make him more powerful.
I scream. The pain that shoots through my eyes is unbearable. A million tiny knives are driven through my brain.
The people, they prod and pull, their bodies flush against me. They talk, quick and incomprehensible.
Better, we must make him better.
More, they just keep trying more. They cannot fail this time. The lights are bright, I remember that. As bright as the sun, but clean and empty. My body is too numb to sweat from it's heat.
I collapse on the floor, wishing that I could weep. Tears might dull the fire.
But my eyes do not respond appropriately to the pain. I inhale deeply, and am suddenly aware that there is silence around me.
No one is near me, no one is talking.
Suddenly whispers break out.
Is he alright?
Is anyone here a doctor?
Max's voice brushes against my ear. "Again?"
I nod, blushing. I am ashamed, I am a liability to the flock.
She takes my hand and squeezes it. "Shh, it's alright. I'm sorry that I brought you here," her voice breaks, "I know how you hate crowds."
Concrit please!
